In 2001, chef and ceramist Jarmo Pitkänen returned to his home town of Kuusamo to work in a project promoting local cuisine. Back then he was already making plans for opening his own restaurant. - Our family settled to a lakeside house, with an old, large barn across the yard. My first ceramics studio was built into the downstairs corner of the old barn. It took a few years until all the plans were finalized, and in 2003 the construction of a new ceramics studio, restaurant kitchen and dining room was begun.
The professional kitchen and the dining room seating 20 were placed on the first floor. The ground floor was occupied with a second kitchen, a ceramics studio and a small shop area. Soon customers found their way to the studio restaurant, which was extended to seat 30 customers already in 2007. The shop area is now larger, and a lounge reception area was added to the restaurant dining room. - It has been a long journey from the day I was looking in from the high sliding doors of the tractor hall and outlining spaces for the staircase and dining room. At the moment the building functions well, but there are still some ideas which I intend to carry out on a later date.
